PROFILE

Ariel Coplan began his love affair with food at a young age - from the age of 16 he knew his destiny was to be a chef. Starting in the kitchen of George Restaurant in Toronto, he quickly realized traveling would help him master his craft.

Moving to NYC soon after, some of his growth into chef life was spent working in acclaimed restaurants in NYC including Café Gray under famed chef Gray Kunz. An opportunity arose back home to work with one of Toronto’s top chefs, David Lee, at Splendido which brought him home for a short while – but the motivated chef wanted more travel so packed his bags again, which lead him to Edinberg, Scotland where he worked at Number One, the Michelin star restaurant in The Balmoral Hotel.

In 2012, it was time to come home to Toronto, where he took over the kitchen at Nyood (now closed) and then worked with Chef Dusty Gallagher at Acadia (now closed). However, his love creating global cuisine lead him to conceive Thoroughbred Food & Drink, which he has run for the last 4 years.

Today he is at the helm of the Bar Reyna kitchens where he brings global inspirations to the eclectic Mediterranean menu. Chef Ariel is excited to be leading the charge at the latest spin-off: Reyna.
